Zombie Stag Do

Zombies , its all fun and games until someone gets bit

Question for you – have you noticed there’s a bit of a trend around zombies lately? Brad Pitt took on the living dead in post-apocalyptic Summer Blockbuster World War Z, the TV series The Walking Dead bagged a Golden Globe en route to its third season, and later this year London will play host to World Zombie Day (October 13 for those that are interested)! Why all the fascination with the undead?!

Social boffins have suggested that the rise of popularity in zombie fodder is related to of all things – the credit crunch. According to Sarah Lauro, a Professor at Clemson (where?!) University suggests: “We are more interested in the zombie at times when as a culture we feel disempowered, and the facts are there that, when we are experiencing economic crises, the vast population is feeling disempowered. … Either playing dead themselves … or watching a show like `Walking Dead’ provides a great variety of outlets for people.”

The Best Zombie Stag Dos on the Market

Well, it’s an interesting theory put forward by Ms. Lauro but we suspect that in the case of zombie stag dos, the motivation is a bit more straightforward – it’s a good old laugh taking down the living dead! One provider who has taken the Zombie stag do to a new level is Wish. These chaps have come up with an array of immersive zombie experience days that are commendably original, professional orchestrated and highly enjoyable. Take Zombie Blitz 1940 for instance, set in war-torn London, you and the boys take shelter from the Luftwaffe in a series of underground tunnels, but soon discover you have more to contend with than the surface bombardment of the East End in the shape of a deranged doctor who has found a way to bring the dead back to life! Complete with costumed actors, this atmospheric caper involves the group navigating a way out of this visceral nightmare by dodging a deluded bunch of blood sucking fiends! At £65 a person this is well worth the money.

Also available is Zombie Manor House. Now, you’d be forgiven for breaking out in a cold sweat at the mere mention of a manor house as it typically involves some sort of stuffy Sunday night costume drama brimming with sexual frustration and Victorian hypocrisy. Fear not though gents, you won’t find ill-fitting corsets, bryll creamed hair or Dame Maggie Smith in this place.  Hell no, instead you and the lads are part of ‘Grey Squadron’, tasked with investigating the mysterious events reported to have taken place at a top secret facility since scientists leading a controversial government sponsored programme went AWOL. Word has it, they were conducting experiments on the dead and they’re now roaming round like they own place. Cue, you and the stag party to go head-to-head with these blood curdling beasts and tell them to jog on!

If you’re looking for combining Zombie slaying and drinking on your stag do then you could try Red 7’s Walking Dead Package. In addition to two nights accommodation, a three course meal and Gatecrasher entry this well-priced Birmingham based bonanza also throws in a Zombie Boot Camp. After some serious combat training you and the boys are deployed as a specialist SWAT team with one objective – to destroy the zombie infestation through use of semi-automatic weapons, hand to hand combat and pistols!

If all this zombie slaying is tickling your fancy then you may be interested in the mother of all available Zombie Stag Dos – The Desolate Lakes package also offered by Wish. This tour de force of zombie experiences takes place over a weekend on the hilly terrain of the Lake District where you and the stag party will need to call in every survival skill you’ve ever picked up from Bear Gryrlls to stay out of the clutches of the undead. It’s like a cross between Shaun of the Dead and Born Survivor. Reckon you can hack it in post-apocalyptic Cumbria? Then this zombie stag do is for you. Charge….
